Indoor air stays invisible until someone measures it. Join a growing community of people who bring a CO2 monitor to the places they already go and turn everyday visits into open data that anyone can explore on the map. Questions or ideas? Join the conversation on our Discord server.

Contribute data

All you need is a smartphone and a portable CO2 monitor. Take it along to the places you visit anyway, such as shops, cafés, gyms, waiting rooms, offices or public transport, and record the CO2 level while you're there.

The free IndoorCO2Map app connects to your monitor via Bluetooth and currently supports the Aranet4, Airvalent, Inkbird IAM-T1 and AirSpot Health. It's completely anonymous and needs no user account. The quick start video shows how to record and submit your first measurement, and the app manual (PDF) explains every feature in detail.

Other ways to contribute

Spread the word. Tell friends, family and colleagues about the project and show them the map. The more people take part, the more places get measured, and the more useful the data becomes for everyone.

Take your monitor out with you. If you have a CO2 monitor, bring it along when you meet up with friends. A live reading in a busy bar or restaurant is an easy way to start a conversation about indoor air, and the measurement adds to the map, too.

Support the project. IndoorCO2Map is developed in free time and run as leanly as possible, but there are still costs: cloud hosting for the database and website, the annual Apple developer fee, and travel to scientific conferences to present the project. Donations via GoFundMe allow the project to improve faster and have a bigger impact. Even without donations, the project's long-term continuation is secured.

Share feedback or code. Found a bug, have an idea for the app, or want to use the data in your research? Get in touch via the contact page. The app is open source, so developers are also welcome to contribute on GitHub.
